SpaceBudz
SpaceBudz is a non-fungible token (NFT) collection on the Cardano blockchain. The project was launched in March 2021 by SpaceLabz[1] a two-person team consisting of German developer, Alessandro Konrad, and Belgium art collector, Zieg Spilliaer. The technological project was inspired by the capabilities of the Cardano blockchain and by the global efforts to decentralize the legacy systems of our world. SpaceBudz created the CIP-25 NFT meta data standards on Cardano, along with the first smart contract marketplace, spacebudz.io[2], and the first in-browser wallet, Nami[3]. These open source contributions have served the NFT and modern crypto art world, which have become an integral part of cryptocurrency.
There are 10,000 unique SpaceBudz consisting of 18 different animal species.[4] The first million dollar NFT sale on Cardano was a SpaceBudz Dino[5][6], and it remains the highest sale to this day. The project also released a "decentralized identity" feature as a headless dApp as well as the first multi-signature wallet on Cardano for the SpaceBudz community.

The Founders had first started getting blockchain technology experience on Ethereum. Cardano uses UTxOs like Bitcoin, but advanced it with eUTxO which is a completely new model. This was an inspiring challenge for them. Cardano did not even have NFTs yet[7], native tokens were a new concept, and nobody knew how metadata could be attached. This led to the creation of the NFT metadata standard on Cardano by SpaceBudz.[8]
At the time there was no way to view NFTs in a wallet and there was no wallet that could connect to Web 3 website protocols. The Cardano-node repository had to be reversed engineered and sometimes it took weeks to figure out single functions. Created by SpaceBudz, Nami Wallet was born. Think "if CryptoPunks made MetaMask". The community was energized. They were trading, auctioning, and escrowing in Discord because there was no marketplace on the chain that functioned purely via smart contracts. The first smart contract platform on Cardano was established by SpaceBudz: spacebudz.io. All of this contributed to the dApp connector standard for DeFi and NFT marketplaces.
