== Development ==
The Founders had first started getting blockchain technology experience on [[Ethereum]]. Cardano uses UTxOs like [[Bitcoin]], but advanced it with eUTxO which is a completely new model. This was an inspiring challenge for them. Cardano did not even have NFTs yet<ref>{{cite web |last1=Lemmens |first1=Camille |title=Cardano NFTs 5 Questions About Them |url=https://www.altcoinbuzz.io/nft/5-questions-about-cardano-nfts-part-1/ |website=Altcoin Buzz |date=14 September 2022}}</ref>, native tokens were a new concept, and nobody knew how [[metadata]] could be attached. At the time there was no way to view [[Non-fungible token|NFTs]] in a wallet and there was no wallet that could connect to [[Web3|Web 3]] website protocols. The Cardano-node repository had to be reversed engineered and sometimes it took weeks to figure out single functions. Created by SpaceBudz, Nami Wallet was born. Think "if [[CryptoPunks]] made [[MetaMask]]". The community was energized. They were trading, auctioning, and escrowing in [[Discord]] because there was no marketplace on the chain that functioned purely via [[Smart contract|smart contracts]]. The first smart contract platform on Cardano was established by SpaceBudz: spacebudz.io. All of this contributed to the [[dApp]] connector standard for DeFi and NFT marketplaces.
