wikipedia:Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) (Jun 2016) [1] is a cloud storage service provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS) designed to provide scalable, elastic, concurrent with some restrictions,[2][3] and encrypted[4] file storage for use with both AWS cloud services and on-premises resources.[5] Amazon EFS is built to be able to grow [6] and shrink automatically as files are added and removed. Amazon EFS supports Network File System (NFS) versions 4.0 and 4.1 (NFSv4) protocol,[7] and control access to files through Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX) permissions.[8]

Contents
Use cases[edit]
According to Amazon, use cases for this file system service typically include content repositories, development environments, web server farms, home directories and big data applications.[9]
Costs[edit]
Data consistency[edit]
Amazon EFS provides open-after-close consistency semantics that applications expect from NFS.[2]
Availability[edit]
Amazon EFS is available in all the public AWS regions at least since December 2019.[10]
News[edit]
- Apr 2023 x3 performance increase: 10 GiB/s of read throughput and 3 GiB/s of write throughput. [11]
- Feb 2022 Added replication support [12]
- Mar 2021 Amazon EFS One Zone
Activities[edit]
- Read EFS FAQs: https://aws.amazon.com/efs/faq/
- Read about EFS performance: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/efs/latest/ug/performance.html, 500 MiBps read/write per client
- Read EFS Data protection and availability https://aws.amazon.com/efs/faq/#Data_protection_and_availability
